Subject: Impact100 Fremantle 2021

Dear ,

Fremantle Foundation is a community-owned philanthropic organisation that offers donors an opportunity to take a deep and personal interest in the community. We encourage you to make your own choices around the people and the causes we support, and we provide you with the information you need to make those choices.

Our goal has always been to bring positive change to our community while helping our donors experience the rewards of for-purpose giving.

When Impact100 Fremantle started back in 2013 it was one of only a handful of sub-funds held with Fremantle Foundation.  Now it is one of over 70 funds held with Fremantle Foundation.

We at the Fremantle Foundation are so grateful to see the impact that has been made to date with grants from Impact100 Fremantle.  Together with all the donors over the last 8 years, we have made eight game-changing grants of $100,000 to local community organisations, and a total of $935,000 in grants overall.

This upcoming year we will exceed $1,000,000 in grants from Impact100 Fremantle.

As the only giving circle style fund held with Fremantle Foundation, Impact100 Fremantle is a unique way to inspire a culture of giving that helps make a lasting, positive impact on the well-being of our community.

So it might come as a surprise that this year will be the final year we are launching Impact100 Fremantle (and this year will be run slightly different).

We're looking to re-design this fund in 2022, so that it can align with our mission of creating a community fund for both now and in the future.  Next year we will have an exciting new opportunity for both donors and organisations.

So what will Impact100 Fremantle 2021 look like?

To date, we have 10 donors to Impact100 Fremantle 2021.

When we have received $115,000 in donations (to cover one major grant of $100,000 and 3 runners up grants of $5,000) we will open Impact100 Fremantle for Expressions of Interest; hold a grant assessment meeting; conduct site visits to the finalists and then host the Voting & Awards Night – all within 3 months.

By separating out the fundraising effort and grant-making process, we will reduce the investment of volunteer and staffing time it takes for applicant organisations to apply for Impact100 Fremantle.  And it will take the pressure off Fremantle Foundation in running a major fundraising effort and grant round concurrently, while also administering to our many other wonderful funds.

An update from our 2020 winner - Australian Dental Health Foundation

Australian Dental Health Foundation is happy to report that the clinic is buzzing along nicely.  Though they had a one-week hiatus caused by the COVID shutdown, the clinic has otherwise been very active.

The clinic has had three main outcomes to date:

  • They have employed a dedicated Dental Health Nurse, Zora, 3 days a week who has already proved to be an excellent fit not only as an efficient and experienced nurse able to work with a wide range of volunteer dentists but also as an empathetic person well suited to caring for their unique cross-section of clients. Feedback from the volunteer dentists has been really positive compared to when they were running exclusively with student nurses.  The clinic is still able to support student nurses through Dental Nursing Australia who can attend under Zora’s direction.
  • Smile Koomba has run a pilot program supplying dentures for free at the clinic at St Pats. The difficultly in supplying dentures pro-bono is the considerable laboratory costs involved.  Smile Koomba are using digital technology to print the final dentures in an attempt to reduce these costs by utilising newer technology.  The first trial was a success and they are in the midst of a second trial now.
  • Through the energy of Carol Nevin from Curtin University, the clinic has been running a monthly hygienist clinic with volunteers and it is hoped to expand this over time.
