Subject: March News from Fremantle Foundation

Dear ,

In the first few months of 2021, the Fremantle Foundation team, once again, found itself immensely grateful for the generosity we received from our donors, supporters and volunteers.

As a community foundation, we exist to serve Fremantle and the broader Western Australian community by supporting a range of charitable efforts and playing an essential role in supporting our local community during times of disaster.

Wooroloo Bushfires:  WA Relief & Recovery Fund

In February, the Wooroloo bushfires had a devastating impact on the lives of many people who lost treasured belongings, animals, homes and livelihoods along with the decimation of their land and surrounding natural environment.

Last week, we visited the Percy Cullen Oval in Gidgegannup, which has been operating as a Bushfire Community Recovery Centre.  There we met with local government agencies to determine current and future needs of the community – there are many.  These include the establishment of a community pantry, mobile laundry services, financial counselling, food, fuel & op shop vouchers and rebuilding of fences to name just a few.  To date we have raised $20,000, if you would like to donate please click here.

COVID19:  WA Relief & Recovery Fund

The WA Relief & Recovery Fund:  COVID19 launched last year, with the support of your donations and a partnership with Paul Ramsay Foundation, allowed us to deliver 10 grants to the value of $256,000 to 9 not for profits.

It has been a privilege to facilitate this funding and to know that we have made both a short- and long-term positive impact on thousands of lives including disadvantaged children, those experiencing homelessness, indigenous Australians, people with a disability, those who need mental health and wellbeing support and disadvantaged women seeking employment.

Join the Impact100 Fremantle community

In its 9th year, the hugely successful Impact100 Fremantle collective giving program will be launched in the coming weeks.

This special program consists of a collaborative giving group in Fremantle who come together to pool their donations towards making one primary grant of $100,000 each year – a game-changing grant – empowering a local charity to dream bigger.

It is a simple idea that’s having a big impact – 100 members each give $1,000 and one vote to decide at the annual awards night, where the total of $100,000 goes.

Donor Story:  Circus WA

CircusWA offers Circulate Y16+ a program for young adults emerging from homelessness. Underpinning this program is research recognising circus training as a powerful tool for social and physical recovery.  For every scholarship funded by an individual or business, CircusWA matches with another scholarship from their own funds. In this way we grow together as a community. Proudly supported for four years by the Fremantle Foundation, Merenda Fund, to donate to the CircusWA Future Fund click here.

Not-for-Profit Story:  Imagined Futures

Imagined Futures is a collective impact partnership that recognises that complex social issues are beyond the capacity of any single organisation to resolve. They work in partnership with government, non-government, business, philanthropists, and community on new ways to try and solve these issues and deliver better outcomes. Their “Keeping Kids Engaged in School Project” aims to increase school attendance, prioritise education, positively transition from primary to secondary school and reintegrate disengaged youth.    imaginedfutures.org.au

Collaborations:  Koomba Smile

"Smile Koomba is a dental service developed by a passionate and Innovative, West Australian team to fill a huge void that exists in the provision of basic health care for those who are suffering and who do not have access to treatment."

Smile Koomba’s purpose is to positively impact the health of people suffering from edentulism (missing majority of their teeth) by dramatically decreasing the waiting time for dentures.

Fremantle Foundation is proud to be the Explorability supporter of Smile Koomba providing them initial information on the Australian Dental Health Foundation clinic operating at St Pats Community Support Centre in Fremantle.

Last week marked another milestone in the Smile Koomba journey as they completed their first pilot program with St Pat’s. Click here for more information.

20 Lives 20 Homes Fremantle

Supported by philanthropic donations this project aims to sustainably house and support 20 of the most vulnerable street-present people experiencing homelessness in Fremantle.  With thanks to our Named Funds who supported 20 Lives 20 Homes The Bollen Fund, Bray Family Fund and Luke Thompson Legacy / SEACORP we were able to hear the incredible outcomes of the 20 Lives 20 Homes Fremantle project.  To watch our video on this project click here

Partnerships - North Fremantle Football Club

Thank you to the NFFC who again proudly supported the Fremantle Foundation, as its chosen charity, for their AFL Season Opener Luncheon and fundraising event.  This event attracted 400 guests to Optus Stadium with a host of prominent guest speakers and players and raised over $5000 for the foundation.
