Care Book Club

You can make an immediate and lasting difference to the life of a child in foster care

Just one book can bring joy

How different would your life be without books?

Life is hard for our most vulnerable children.

It may be the first book they have ever owned

Donations to the Fremantle Care Book Club Project will support programs to improve literacy and wellbeing for children in care in the Fremantle District; Primarily through a book parcel gifting program.

Our Vision

Children in the CEO’s care will continue to have a carefully selected parcel of fiction and non-fiction books provided to every 6 months.

Aside from the obvious benefits of literacy and language development, these books will continue to provide the most vulnerable children in Fremantle with an opportunity to engage with ideas and strategies which encourage mindfulness, self-reflection, joy and grace.

Education and life trajectories for children in care are distressingly poor.

Children In Care may have low literacy, limited education, and poor health; which can result in unemployment, substance abuse, crime and homelessness in adulthood.

Our vision is to bring joy, improve literacy and well being and break  intergenerational cycles

Research shows that education can break the cycle

By giving Children In Care books of their own, the Fremantle Discovery Book Club aims to help develop a love of reading and to increase opportunities for our most vulnerable children.

There are over 300 Children in Care in the Fremantle District.

Financial Investment required

330 Children in care x 2 $50 parcels per year each = $33,000

Target Group

Children brought into Care have met a threshold for immediate and significant risk of harm by a Magistrate in the Perth Children’s Court which means the Government of Western Australia is now their guardian. Often their belongings have been lost or sold, and their contact with family is supervised due to safety issues. Many of the children in the Department’s care struggle to overcome stress due to trauma and poverty. Often this cycle continues for generations.
